Saitek Eclipse Keyboard: The Best Backlit Keyboard Ever
Ranked #1,130 in Tech & Geek, #27,558 overall
The Best Keyboard I've Ever Had
That's because I love it so much! I've had many keyboards in the past, some cost me less than twenty dollars - talk about cheap!
The first lighted keyboard I owned wasn't exactly cheap, I paid $99 plus shipping and handling for it, but it always had a cheap feel to it. It was like using one of those cheaper keyboards.
My Saitek Eclipse Keyboard has a nice solid feel. The back light is softer than my former keyboard. It also has the key layout and spacing of a standard keyboard, my first illuminated keyboard had a non-standard key placement with no spacing, that caused plenty of typos!
The only reason I wouldn't buy another Eclipse Keyboard just like it is because I want to try the newer Saitek Eclipse II Keyboard (PK02AU), or Saitek PK17U Cyborg Gaming Keyboard with Tri-Color Backlighting. With this one is holding up so well, even after a couple of years' of use, I won't actually need a new one any time soon.
The Saitek Eclipse Keyboard In Action

Before having a lighted keyboard, I used to type with a mini flashlight in one hand when it was dark, so I wouldn't have to leave the overhead light on. I even had a thick string on it and wore it around my neck.
I bought my first illuminated keyboard and I lived with it for a couple of years. It freed me from wearing a flashlight when I was on my computer during the night, but it was too bright. It would become hard to read because the each key was entirely illuminated and the markings were solid.
By contrast, even at it's brightest, the Saitek is easier on my eyes. As you can see from the above picture, the keys are solid, and the soft blue light glows from around the keys and through the markings. This makes it easier to determine the borders of the keys on the Saitek.
The keys on my old keyboard were too close together and I would often hit two neighboring keys at once. With the whole key lighted, it created more over-all ambient light, and that made it harder for me to see the boundary of the individual keys. When I was tired and trying to type in the dark, Ii would just be a puddle of blue staring me in the face.
I find the Saitek Eclipse Keyboard much easier on my eyes. I also find it to be easy to type with compared to many keyboards I've had in the past. The keys have a nice feel, not flimsy like cheaper keyboards, it also has a little bit more weight than the cheaper ones.

- I enjoyed this - and yes, now I want one! What a great idea! I don't work in the dark, but I think the extra illumination would be helpful for older eyes! and I type without looking at the board - the old timey way, but still.......
